Yes, email updates are free.

How much does it cost for the text alerts?

No cost for team administrators to send the texts. Text message updates to subscribers costs only 50c each. If there is insufficient credit on your phone, you will not recieve a text message.

How do I send a message to my team?

Log in on the homepage and click on the "message" link beside your team. Select the message type and hit send. It's that easy.
